كانت الريح قويّةً الليلة؛ هزّت النافذة وصفرت في المدخنة بصوتٍ طويلٍ جامح: ووووو! فشدّ مَجْد البطانيّة فوق رأسه ونادى: «بابا! هناك صوتٌ مخيف!»
The wind was strong tonight. It rattled the window and whistled down the chimney with a long, wild WHOOOO. Majd pulled the blanket over his head. "Baba!" he called. "There's a scary noise!"
فجاء بابا وجلس على السرير، وأصغيا معاً. ووووو! فأمال بابا رأسه وقال: «أتعرف بماذا يذكّرني؟ بقطارٍ بخاريٍّ يصفّر وهو يعبر نفقاً. أظنّه قطار الريح، يأخذ الغيوم إلى بيوتها لتنام.»
Baba came and sat on the bed. They listened together. WHOOOO. Baba tilted his head. "You know what that sounds like to me? A steam train whistling as it goes through a tunnel. I think it's the wind train, taking the clouds home for the night."
فأطلّ مَجْد، وجاء الصفير التالي، فتخيّل قطاراً طويلاً من الغيوم المنفوشة يندفع أمام النافذة، وهمس: «توت، تصبح على خير يا قطار الريح.» وصارت كلّ هبّةٍ تشبه قاطراً لطيفاً أكثر ممّا تشبه شيئاً مخيفاً.
Majd peeked out. The next whistle came, and he imagined a long train of fluffy clouds rushing past the window. "Toot!" he whispered back. "Goodnight, wind train." Each gust sounded less frightening and more like a friendly engine.
فلفّ بابا البطانيّة حول كتفي مَجْد وقال: «كنت خائفاً، لكنّك أصغيت واكتشفت حقيقته. هذه شجاعة.» فتثاءب مَجْد، وصفّر قطار الريح بهدوءٍ من بعيد، فنام. النهاية.
Baba tucked the blanket around Majd's shoulders. "You were scared, but you listened and found out what it really was. That's brave." Majd yawned. The wind train whistled softly in the distance, and he fell asleep. The end.
