قصة قبل النوم عن المشاركة وتبادل الأدوار للأطفال الذين يحبّون القطارات

جاء سامي ووالداه إلى العشاء، وبعد الحلوى ركض الاثنان إلى غرفة مَجْد ليلعبا بالقطار. لكن لم يكن هناك إلّا قاطرٌ واحدٌ صفّارته تعمل، وكلاهما يريده: «أخذته أوّلاً!» «لا، أنا!» وبعد قليلٍ صار كلٌّ منهما يشدّ، حتّى كاد القاطر ينكسر.

Sami and his parents came for dinner, and after dessert the two cousins ran to Majd's room to play trains. But there was only one engine with a working whistle, and both of them wanted it. "I had it first!" "No, I did!" Soon they were both pulling, and the engine nearly snapped.

فجثا بابا بينهما وقال: «السكك الحقيقيّة تحتاج إلى شخصين: سائق، ومشغّل إشاراتٍ يخبره متى يقف ومتى ينطلق. من دون إشارات تصطدم القطارات.» وقصّ دائرةً من ورقٍ أحمر، ولوّن وجهها الآخر بالأخضر، وألصقها على قلم.

Baba knelt between them. "Real railways need two people," he said. "A driver, and a signal operator who tells the driver when to stop and go. Without signals, trains crash." He cut a circle out of red card, coloured one side green, and stuck it on a pencil.

واختار مَجْد أن يكون الإشارة أوّلاً. أحمر: فأوقف سامي القاطر في المحطّة. أخضر: فانطلق صافراً. وكان التحكّم في الخطّ كلّه ممتعاً على نحوٍ مدهش. وبعد عشر رحلاتٍ تبادلا، وكان سامي مشغّل إشاراتٍ صارماً جدّاً.

Majd chose to be the signal first. Red: Sami stopped the engine at the station. Green: off it went, whistling. It was surprisingly fun to be in charge of the whole line. After ten trips they swapped, and Sami was a very strict signal operator indeed.

وحين عاد سامي إلى بيته، دثّره بابا وقال: «حوّلت لعبةً واحدةً إلى عملين، هذه مشاركةٌ ذكيّة.» فتثاءب مَجْد: «في المرّة القادمة سأتركه يصفّر أوّلاً»، ونام. النهاية.

When Sami went home, Baba tucked Majd into bed. "You turned one toy into two jobs," he said. "That's clever sharing." Majd yawned. "Next time I'll let him whistle first," he said, and fell asleep. The end.
