Majd's bedroom floor had become a solar system of its own. There were the papier-mâché planets from his school project, a half-built model of the moon, books open at pictures of nebulas, and approximately four hundred pieces of a space puzzle. It had all been fascinating at the time. Now it was bedtime, and Mama was standing in the doorway with her eyebrows raised. "I can't see the carpet," she said. "I'm not sure the carpet exists." Majd looked at the chaos and felt tired just thinking about it. "Where do I even start?"
