Turns on the Telescope

It was a clear night, and the moon was full. Baba carried his old telescope to the bedroom window, and Majd pressed his eye to it. The moon looked enormous, grey and white and covered in round craters. Then cousin Sami, who was staying the night, tugged his sleeve. "Let me see!"

"Not yet," said Majd, holding on tight. "I'm still looking." Sami's lip wobbled. Baba knelt down. "The moon isn't going anywhere," he said. "And it's more fun when you can talk about what you saw. How about two minutes each? I'll be the timer."

So they took turns. When it was Sami's go, Majd pointed out the biggest crater. When it was Majd's go, Sami spotted a dark patch that looked like a rabbit. Soon they were swapping faster and faster, shouting about everything they found.

"Sharing the moon is better," said Majd, when Baba finally put the telescope away. "You saw the rabbit, and I'd never have found it." Baba tucked them both into bed. Through the window, the real moon shone down on two sleepy astronomers. The end.
