قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الصبر والانتظار، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الأميراتِ والقصور

كانت تيتا تقيم عندهم أسبوعاً، وأحضرت سلّة الخياطة، فهي تخيط للينا عباءة أميرةٍ حقيقيّة، زرقاء غامقة بترترٍ فضّيّ. لكنّها لا تخيط إلّا بعد العشاء، وصفّاً واحداً كلّ مساء. فسألت لينا: «لماذا لا تخيطينها كلّها الليلة؟» قالت تيتا: «لأنّ الخياطة الجيّدة تحتاج إلى ضوءٍ جيّدٍ وأصابع صبورة.»

Teta was staying for the week, and she had brought her sewing basket. She was making Lina a real princess cape, deep blue, with silver sequins. But she only sewed after dinner, and only one row each evening. "Why not do it all tonight?" asked Lina. "Because good sewing needs good light and patient fingers," said Teta.

فصارت لينا تجلس كلّ مساءٍ بجانب تيتا على الأريكة تتفرّج، وتناولها الترتر حبّةً بعد حبّة، فتخيطه تيتا غرزةً صغيرةً بعد غرزة. وفي آخر الصفّ ترفع تيتا العباءة، فإذا هي أكثر لمعاناً قليلاً من الليلة السابقة.

So each evening, Lina sat beside Teta on the sofa and watched. She passed her the sequins one by one, and Teta stitched them on, tiny stitch after tiny stitch. At the end of the row, Teta held up the cape. It was a little sparklier than the night before.

والليلة كان الصفّ الخامس، وكانت لينا تتوق إلى لبسها كثيراً، لكنّها عرفت أنّ تيتا لو استعجلت لسقط الترتر. قالت تيتا: «صفّان آخران، ثمّ تصير لك.» فمسحت لينا على الجزء اللامع، وناولت تيتا آخر حبّةٍ في تلك الليلة.

Tonight was the fifth row. Lina wanted to wear it so much. But she knew that if Teta rushed, the sequins would fall off. "Two more rows," said Teta. "Then it's yours." Lina stroked the sparkly part, and handed Teta the last sequin of the night.

ووقت النوم دثّرتها ماما، وعلّقت تيتا العباءة نصف المكتملة على الباب حيث تراها لينا، والترتر يلتقط ضوء الممرّ. فهمست لينا: «ليلتان أخريان.» قالت تيتا: «تستحقّ الانتظار.» فنامت لينا تعدّ الترتر. النهاية.

At bedtime, Mama tucked Lina in, and Teta hung the half-finished cape on the door where she could see it. The sequins caught the light from the hall. "Two more nights," whispered Lina. "Worth the wait," said Teta. Lina fell asleep counting sequins. The end.
