قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الصبر والانتظار، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ القمرَ والنجوم

كان الليلة إطلاق صاروخٍ حقيقيّ، وقال بابا إنّ لينا تستطيع أن تسهر لتشاهده على الحاسوب، هذه المرّة فقط. وفي السابعة كانت لينا جاهزةً بثياب النوم على الأريكة مع بابا. وعلى الشاشة صاروخٌ أبيض طويلٌ على منصّة الإطلاق، والبخار يلتفّ حوله، وساعة العدّ التنازليّ تشير إلى عشر دقائق.

Tonight there was a real rocket launch, and Baba had said Lina could stay up to watch it on the laptop, just this once. At seven o'clock, Lina was ready in her pyjamas, sitting on the sofa with Baba. On the screen, a tall white rocket stood on the launch pad, steam curling round it. The countdown clock said ten minutes.

ثمّ، قبل دقيقتين، توقّفت الساعة، وقال صوتٌ هادئ: «أوقفنا العدّ. الرياح شديدةٌ في الأعلى، سننتظر.» فتأوّهت لينا: «لكنّه كان جاهزاً تقريباً!» قال بابا: «على الصواريخ أن تصبر، فإن انطلقت في اللحظة الخطأ تسوء الأمور.»

Then, with two minutes to go, the clock stopped. "We are holding the count," said a calm voice. "Winds are too strong up high. We will wait." Lina groaned. "But it was nearly ready!" "Rockets have to be patient," said Baba. "If they launch at the wrong moment, things go wrong."

فانتظرا. صنع بابا حليباً دافئاً، ورسمت لينا الصاروخ، وبقيت الساعة متجمّدةً وقتاً طويلاً. ثمّ قال الصوت الهادئ: «الرياح جيّدة، نستأنف العدّ.» فاعتدلت لينا في جلستها: عشرة، تسعة، ثمانية… ثلاثة، اثنان، واحد… وارتفع الصاروخ على عمودٍ من النار إلى السماء المظلمة.

So they waited. Baba made warm milk. Lina drew a picture of the rocket. The clock stayed frozen for a long time. Then the calm voice said, "Winds are good. Resuming the count." Lina sat up straight. Ten, nine, eight… three, two, one… and the rocket rose on a column of fire, up into the dark sky.

قالت لينا وهي تتثاءب: «كان يستحقّ الانتظار.» قال بابا: «حتّى المسؤولون عن الصاروخ اضطرّوا أن يصبروا. انتظار اللحظة المناسبة جزءٌ من كلّ مهمّة.» وحملها إلى الأعلى ودثّرها، فنامت لينا تحلم بالصواريخ. النهاية.

"It was worth the wait," said Lina, yawning. "Even the people in charge of the rocket had to be patient," said Baba. "Waiting for the right moment is part of every mission." He carried Lina upstairs and tucked her in, and Lina fell asleep dreaming of rockets. The end.
