أرسلت الخالة للينا كتاباً جديداً عن الديناصورات، فيه نوافذ ورقيّةٌ تُرفع. فركضت إلى المطبخ: «بابا، أرجوك اقرأه الآن!» لكنّ يدي بابا كانتا في الماء والصابون، فقال: «يسعدني ذلك، أعطيني خمس دقائق لأنهي الصحون.»
Auntie had sent Lina a brand-new dinosaur book with flaps to lift. She ran to the kitchen. "Baba, please read it now!" But Baba's hands were deep in soapy water. "I'd love to," he said. "Give me five minutes to finish the dishes."
بدت الدقائق الخمس طويلةً جدّاً. فقفزت لينا من قدمٍ إلى قدم، وتنهّدت بصوتٍ عالٍ. ثمّ خطرت لها فكرة: جلست إلى الطاولة وأخذت تتصفّح الصور، تعدّ كلّ ديناصورٍ تجده، حتّى الصغار المختبئة خلف الأشجار.
Five minutes felt like forever. Lina hopped from foot to foot and sighed loudly. Then she had an idea. She sat at the table and looked through the pictures, counting every dinosaur she could find, even the tiny ones hiding behind trees.
«اثنا عشر، ثلاثة عشر، أربعة عشر!» وما إن وجدت آخرها حتّى نشّف بابا يديه وقال: «أربعة عشر ديناصوراً؟ كنتِ مشغولةً إذن! شكراً لأنّك انتظرتِ بصبر. والآن، إلى السرير لوقت الحكاية.»
"Twelve, thirteen, fourteen!" Just as she found the last one, Baba dried his hands. "Fourteen dinosaurs? You've been busy," he said. "Thank you for waiting so patiently. Now, let's get you into bed for story time."
وتحت البطانيّة، رفعت لينا كلّ النوافذ الورقيّة، بينما قرأ بابا بأجمل أصوات الديناصورات. وحين انتهى الكتاب، قبّلها قبلة النوم. فقالت لينا وهي تتثاءب: «كان الانتظار صعباً، لكنّه جعل الحكاية أجمل.» النهاية.
Snuggled under the blanket, Lina lifted every flap while Baba read in his best dinosaur voices. When the book ended, he kissed her goodnight. "Waiting was hard," Lina yawned, "but it made the story even better." The end.
