قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الذهاب إلى الحضانة، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الأميراتِ والقصور

على العشاء حرّكت لينا الطعام في الصحن: «سنقدّم مسرحيّة أميرةٍ في الحضانة، هدى هي الأميرة، وأنا الشجرة.» وصغر صوتها: «والأشجار لا تتكلّم أصلاً.» فوضع بابا ملعقته: «هل أخبرك سرّاً عن الأشجار في المسرحيّات؟»

At dinner, Lina pushed her food around. "We're doing a princess play at nursery," she said. "Huda is the princess. I'm the tree." Her voice went small. "Trees don't even talk." Baba put down his spoon. "Can I tell you a secret about trees in plays?"

«في القصّة، أين تختبئ الأميرة حين تأتي العاصفة؟» ففكّرت لينا: «خلف الشجرة الكبيرة.» قال بابا: «بالضبط، فمن دون الشجرة لا مكان تختبئ فيه، والقصّة كلّها تحتاجك. والشجرة الجيّدة يجب أن تقف ساكنةً مستقيمةً جدّاً، وهذا صعب.»

"In the story, where does the princess hide when the storm comes?" Lina thought. "Behind the big tree." "Exactly," said Baba. "Without the tree, she has nowhere to hide. The whole story needs you. And a good tree has to stand very still and very tall. That's hard."

وبعد العشاء تدرّبا في غرفة الجلوس: وقفت لينا منتصبةً ومدّت ذراعيها كالأغصان، وكان بابا الريح فتمايلت لينا، ثمّ صار بابا الأميرة يختبئ خلفها ويطلّ بوجوهٍ مضحكة، وحاولت لينا جاهدة ألّا تضحك، فالأشجار لا تضحك.

After dinner, they practised in the living room. Lina stood tall with her arms out like branches. Baba was the wind, and Lina swayed. Then Baba was the princess, hiding behind her, peeping out and making silly faces. Lina tried very hard not to laugh, because trees don't laugh.

ووقت النوم دثّرها بابا، فقالت لينا: «سأكون أسكن شجرةٍ وأطولها، وحين تختبئ هدى خلفي سأحميها.» قال بابا: «هذه أهمّ مهمّةٍ في المسرحيّة.» فمدّت لينا ذراعيها كالأغصان مرّةً أخيرة، ونامت. النهاية.

At bedtime, Baba tucked her in. "I'll be the stillest, tallest tree," said Lina. "And when Huda hides behind me, I'll keep her safe." "That's the most important job in the play," said Baba. Lina stretched her arms up like branches one last time, and fell asleep. The end.
