الكرة في الهواء

حاولت لينا أن تبقي الكرة في الهواء بقدمها. دب! فسقطت. دب! وسقطت من جديد.

Lina tried to keep the ball up with her foot. Bump! It fell down. Bump! Down again.

فقالت: «إنّه صعبٌ جدّاً!» قال بابا: «حاولي ببطء، نقرةً صغيرةً كلّ مرّة.»

"It's too hard!" she said. "Try slowly," said Baba. "One little tap at a time."

فحاولت لينا من جديد ببطء: نقرة... ونقرةٌ أخرى! اثنتان متتاليتان! فقفزت فرحاً.

Lina tried again, slowly. Tap... and tap! Two in a row! She jumped up and down.

قالت ماما وهي تدثّرها: «غداً ربّما ثلاث.» فابتسمت لينا وأغمضت عينيها. النهاية.

"Tomorrow, maybe three," said Mama, tucking Lina into bed. She smiled and closed her eyes. The end.

Waiting is hard for young children. Show time with something they can see, like sleeps on a calendar.
Give your child something to do while waiting: a song, a drawing or counting cars.
Name the feeling: "Waiting is hard, and you are doing it."
