كانت على التلفاز مباراةٌ كبيرة، وقال بابا إنّ لينا تستطيع السهر حتّى نهاية الشوط الأوّل. فجلسا على الأريكة بوشاحي الفريق، وكلّما اقترب فريقهما من المرمى قفزا وصاحا، وماما تضحك منهما في المطبخ.
There was a big match on TV, and Baba said Lina could stay up for the first half. They sat on the sofa in their team scarves. Every time their team got close to the goal, they both jumped up and shouted, and Mama laughed at them from the kitchen.
وفي الاستراحة أحضرت ماما صحناً من شرائح البرتقال، كما يأكل اللاعبون الحقيقيّون. فعدّتها لينا، فكانت سبعاً، فعبست: «السبعة لا تُقسم على ثلاثة.» فقال بابا إنّ القطعة الزائدة للينا.
At half time, Mama brought in a plate of orange slices, just like real footballers have. Lina counted them. There were seven. "That doesn't share into three," she said, frowning. Baba said Lina could have the extra one.
لكنّ لينا فكّرت في فكرةٍ أفضل: أعطت كلّ واحدٍ شريحتين، ثمّ قسمت الشريحة الأخيرة بعنايةٍ إلى ثلاث قطعٍ صغيرة، لكلٍّ قطعة: «الآن صارت عادلة.» فصفّق ماما وبابا كأنّها سجّلت هدفاً.
But Lina had a better idea. She gave everyone two slices. Then she carefully broke the last slice into three small pieces, one each. "Now it's fair," she said. Mama and Baba clapped as if she had scored a goal.
وحين صفّر الحكم لبداية الشوط الثاني حان وقت النوم، فدثّرتها ماما وما زال الوشاح حول عنقها. وقالت لينا ناعسةً: «فاز فريقنا في القسمة.» فابتسمت ماما وأطفأت الضوء. النهاية.
When the referee blew the whistle for the second half, it was bedtime. Mama tucked Lina in, still wearing her scarf. "Our team won the sharing," she said sleepily. Mama smiled and turned off the light. The end.
