Teta had given Lina a geranium in a tiny pot, and it had grown too big. "It needs a new home," said Baba after dinner. He spread newspaper on the kitchen floor and fetched a big pot and a bag of compost. Lina was very excited. A bit too excited.

She tipped the compost bag too fast, and whoosh, soil went everywhere: on the newspaper, on the floor, on Baba's socks. Lina froze. "Oops." Baba laughed. "Gardening is messy," he said. "The trick is to clean up as you go." He handed Lina the dustpan and brush.

Together they finished planting the geranium in its big new pot and pressed the soil down gently. Then Lina swept up every bit of spilled soil and tipped it back into the bag. Baba folded up the newspaper. Lina wiped the floor with a cloth until it shone.

The geranium looked happy on the windowsill, and the kitchen looked as if nothing had happened. "Even Baba's socks?" asked Lina. "Even Baba's socks," he said, pulling them off and putting them in the laundry. Then he washed Lina's hands and tucked her into bed. The end.
