بعد العشاء، بنت لينا برجاً عالياً من المكعّبات، ثمّ أوقعته بضجّة. والآن صارت المكعّبات في كلّ مكانٍ على الأرض. قال بابا: «حان وقت الترتيب قبل النوم.» فتنهّدت لينا؛ فالمكعّبات كثيرةٌ جدّاً!
After dinner, Lina had built a tall tower of blocks, then knocked it down with a crash. Now there were blocks all over the floor. "Time to tidy up before bed," said Baba. Lina sighed. There were so many blocks!
ثمّ رأت تشومب، ديناصورها الذي ينفتح فمه وينغلق، وقالت مبتسمةً: «بابا، تشومب جائع، وأكلته المفضّلة المكعّبات!» فضحك بابا: «إذن، فليتناول عشاءه.»
Then she spotted Chomp, her toy dinosaur with a mouth that opens and closes. "Baba, Chomp is hungry," she said with a grin. "And his favourite food is blocks!" Baba laughed. "Then he'd better have his dinner."
ففتح تشومب فكّيه والتهم مكعّباً أحمر، ثمّ مشى إلى صندوق الألعاب وأسقطه فيه: بلوب! ثمّ مكعّباً أزرق، ثمّ أصفر. وأمسك بابا الصندوق بثبات، وتشومب يأكل بلا توقّف، حتّى خلت الأرض تماماً.
Chomp opened his jaws and gobbled up a red block. He stomped over to the toy box and dropped it in. Plop! Then a blue one, then a yellow one. Baba held the box steady while Chomp ate and ate, until the floor was completely clear.
قالت لينا وهي تربّت على بطنه البلاستيكيّ: «شبع تشومب.» ثمّ وضعهما بابا في السرير وقال: «كان هذا أسرع ترتيبٍ على الإطلاق!» فنظرت لينا إلى الغرفة المرتّبة الهادئة وابتسمت. الترتيب ممتع، خاصّةً مع ديناصورٍ جائع. النهاية.
"Chomp is full," said Lina, patting his plastic tummy. Baba tucked them both into bed. "That was the fastest tidy-up ever," he said. Lina looked at the neat, quiet room and smiled. Tidying can be fun, especially with a hungry dinosaur. The end.
