قصة قبل النوم عن المشاركة وتبادل الأدوار للأطفال الذين يحبّون الأزهارَ والفراشات

أعطت تيتا مَجْد كيساً من بذور دوّار الشمس العملاق، النوع الذي يصير أطول من الكبار. والليلة كان سامي يبيت عندهم، فراقب سامي ما يفعله مَجْد: يملأ أصيصاً بالتراب، ثمّ سأل: «هل أزرع واحدةً أيضاً؟» فضمّ مَجْد الكيس؛ لم يكن فيه إلّا عشر بذور.

Teta had given Majd a packet of giant sunflower seeds, the kind that grow taller than a grown-up. Tonight, cousin Sami was staying over, and he watched as Majd filled a pot with soil. "Can I plant one too?" he asked. Majd hugged the packet. There were only ten seeds.

وقال: «ماذا لو لم تنبت بذوري؟ سأحتاج إلى بذورٍ احتياطيّة.» فقالت ماما وهي تغسل الصحون: «دوّار الشمس ينمو أفضل في مجموعات، والسباق أمتع.» فنظر مَجْد إلى سامي؛ السباق يبدو ممتعاً فعلاً. فقال: «حسناً، خمسٌ لكلٍّ منّا.»

"What if mine don't grow?" he said. "Then you'd want spares." Mama, who was washing up, said, "Sunflowers grow best in groups. And it's more fun to have a race." Majd looked at Sami. A race did sound fun. "Okay," he said. "Five each."

فملآ أصيصاً ثانياً، وغرز كلٌّ منهما خمس بذورٍ مخطّطةٍ في التراب بإصبعه، بالعمق الذي يقوله الكيس، وسقياها بعناية، وكتبا لافتتين على عيدان مثلّجات: «دوّار شمس مَجْد» و«دوّار شمس سامي». ثمّ وضعا الأصيصين متجاورين على حافّة نافذة المطبخ.

They filled a second pot, and each pushed five stripy seeds into the soil with a finger, just as deep as the packet said. They watered them carefully and wrote labels on lolly sticks: Majd's Sunflowers and Sami's Sunflowers. Then they put both pots side by side on the kitchen windowsill.

قال سامي: «سنقيسها كلّ أسبوع.» وقال مَجْد: «ونتبادل الصور.» ودثّرتهما ماما، سامي على السرير المتنقّل ومَجْد في سريره، وقالت: «مشاركة البذور مشاركةٌ لمتعة مراقبتها وهي تنمو.» فنام مَجْد وهو يتخيّل زهرتي دوّار شمسٍ عملاقتين جنباً إلى جنب. النهاية.

"We'll measure them every week," said Sami. "And send photos," said Majd. Mama tucked them into bed, Sami on the camp bed and Majd in his bed. "Sharing seeds means sharing the fun of watching them grow," she said. Majd fell asleep imagining two giant sunflowers, side by side. The end.
