The new school bag stood by the bedroom door, packed and ready, with the uniform folded on top. Lina was sitting on the floor beside it, turning a small wooden engine over and over in her hands. It was the oldest toy she owned, its blue paint chipped from years of journeys. Baba came in to say goodnight and sat down next to her. "Thinking of taking a passenger?" he asked gently.
