قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الذهاب إلى الحضانة، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ البحرَ وحيواناتِه

في الحضانة سمكةٌ ذهبيّةٌ اسمها ذهبيّة، في حوضٍ قرب النافذة، وكلّ أسبوعٍ يصير طفلٌ مختلفٌ مساعد السمك، وغداً دور لينا. وكانت وقت النوم متحمّسةً حتّى لم تستطع البقاء ساكنة، فقالت لبابا وهي تقفز على السرير: «أنا مساعدة السمك!»

At nursery there was a goldfish called Goldie, in a tank by the window, and every week a different child got to be the fish helper. Tomorrow it was Lina's turn. At bedtime she was so excited she couldn't lie still. "I'm the fish helper!" she told Baba, bouncing on the bed.

قال بابا: «هذا عملٌ مهمّ، هل تعرفين كم تحتاج ذهبيّة من الطعام؟» ففكّرت لينا: «كثيراً؟ إنّها جائعةٌ دائماً.» فهزّ بابا رأسه: «السمك يبدو جائعاً، لكنّ كثرة الطعام توسّخ الماء وتمرض السمكة. رشّةٌ صغيرةٌ فقط، بحجم عينها.»

"That's an important job," said Baba. "Do you know how much food Goldie needs?" Lina thought. "Lots? She's always hungry." Baba shook his head. "Fish look hungry, but too much food makes the water dirty and the fish poorly. Just a tiny pinch, the size of her eye."

فتدرّبا: مدّ بابا كوباً فارغاً كأنّه الحوض، فضمّت لينا أصابعها في الهواء ونثرت بحذرٍ شديد: «رشّةٌ واحدة، ثمّ ننتظر ونراها تأكل.» سأل بابا: «ثمّ؟» قالت لينا: «ثمّ أقول لذهبيّة: أحسنتِ.» فضحكا معاً.

So they practised. Baba held out an empty cup for the tank, and Lina pinched the air and sprinkled very carefully. "One pinch," she said. "Then wait and watch her eat." "And then?" asked Baba. "Then I say well done to Goldie," said Lina, and they both laughed.

ودثّرها بابا، فرفعت لينا أصابعها في الظلام مرّةً أخرى: «رشّةٌ واحدة، بحجم عينها.» قال بابا: «ذهبيّة محظوظةٌ بك.» فوضعت لينا يدها تحت الوسادة جاهزة للغد، ونامت. النهاية.

Baba tucked her in. "One pinch," Lina said again, holding up her fingers in the dark. "The size of her eye." "Goldie is lucky to have you," said Baba. Lina put her hand under the pillow, ready for tomorrow, and fell asleep. The end.
