Lina had been counting down the days to this launch for weeks: a new rocket carrying a telescope that would look further into space than any before. It was scheduled for 7:30 p.m., and Mama and Baba had agreed she could watch the livestream before bed. By 7:20, Lina was in pyjamas, cross-legged in front of the laptop, a bowl of popcorn on her knees. Then, at T-minus four minutes, the commentator's voice changed. "We're now in an unplanned hold," she said. "A sensor on the second stage is showing an unexpected reading."
