قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن استقبال أخٍ أو أختٍ صغيرة، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ القمرَ والنجوم

كان الطفل يوسف يقضي وقتاً طويلاً مستلقياً في سريره يحدّق في السقف. قالت لينا بعد العشاء: «لا بدّ أنّه يشعر بالملل، فليس هناك شيءٌ في الأعلى.» فوافق بابا: «الرضّع يحبّون النظر إلى الأشكال الزاهية المتحرّكة. ماذا نصنع له؟» فعرفت لينا فوراً: «كواكب!»

Baby Yusuf spent a lot of time lying in his cot, staring at the ceiling. "He must be bored," said Lina after dinner. "There's nothing up there." Baba agreed. "Babies love looking at bright shapes that move," he said. "What could we make him?" Lina knew immediately. "Planets!"

فقصّا دوائر من الورق المقوّى ولوّناها: مرّيخاً أحمر، وأرضاً زرقاء، ومشترياً برتقاليّاً بخطوط، وزحل بحلقةٍ لامعة. وأضافت لينا هلالاً أصفر وبعض النجوم الفضّيّة. وربط بابا كلّ واحدٍ بخيطٍ وعلّقها من طوق.

They cut circles out of card and coloured them: a red Mars, a blue Earth, an orange Jupiter with stripes, and Saturn with a sparkly ring. Lina added a yellow crescent moon and some silver stars. Baba tied each one to a piece of thread and hung them from a hoop.

وحين اكتملت المعلّقة علّقاها فوق سرير يوسف، فجعلها نسيمٌ خفيفٌ من الباب تدور ببطءٍ شديد، وتابعت عينا يوسف الكواكب وهي تدور، ثمّ ابتسم ابتسامةً عريضةً بلا أسنان ولوّح بذراعيه.

When the mobile was finished, they hung it above Yusuf's cot. A gentle draught from the door made it turn very slowly. Yusuf's eyes followed the planets round and round. Then he gave a huge gummy smile and waved his arms.

قالت لينا: «أعجبته!» قال بابا: «صنعتِ لأخيك أوّل مجموعةٍ شمسيّةٍ له.» وجاءت ماما لترى، وضمّتها ضمّةً كبيرة. ثمّ دثّرها بابا، فنامت لينا وهي تتخيّل كواكب تدور فوق طفلين نائمين. النهاية.

"He likes it!" said Lina. "You made your brother his very first solar system," said Baba. Mama came in to see, and gave Lina a big hug. Then Baba tucked her in, and Lina fell asleep imagining planets turning above two sleeping children. The end.
