Every Thursday at nursery there was show and tell, and tomorrow it was Majd's turn. He had chosen carefully: a big pink conch shell from the beach holiday, the size of two fists, bumpy on the outside and so smooth inside it felt like glass. But when bedtime came, Majd sat on the bed turning it over and over, frowning. "When it's your turn, everyone stares at you," he said quietly. "Last time Hamza forgot everything and just stood there. What if that happens to me?"
