قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن اللطف ومساعدة الآخرين، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ البحرَ وحيواناتِه

في تلك الليلة، بعد أن قرأت ماما كتاباً عن برك الصخور ودثّرتها، حلمت لينا بشاطئٍ هادئٍ تحت قمرٍ كبيرٍ مستدير، والأمواج تهمس، والرمل بارد. وقرب صخرةٍ سمعت شهقةً صغيرة، فإذا سرطانٌ ناسكٌ صغيرٌ جالسٌ وحده.

That night, after Mama read a book about rock pools and tucked her in, Lina dreamed of a quiet beach under a big round moon. The waves were whispering, and the sand was cool. Near a rock, she heard a tiny sniffle. A little hermit crab was sitting all alone.

فسألت لينا: «ما بك؟» قال السرطان حزيناً: «كبرت، وصارت صدفتي ضيّقة. أحتاج إلى أكبر منها، لكنّي بطيءٌ ولن أجدها قبل أن يأتي المدّ.» فجثت لينا: «أنا سريعة، سأساعدك.»

"What's wrong?" asked Lina. "I've grown," said the crab sadly, "and my shell is too tight. I need a bigger one, but I'm too slow to find it before the tide comes in." Lina knelt down. "I'm quick," she said. "I'll help."

فبحثت لينا على الشاطئ في ضوء القمر: صدفةٌ مكسورة، وأخرى صغيرة، وثالثةٌ يسكنها حلزون. وأخيراً وجدت صدفةً ملساء مستديرةً لؤلؤيّةً بالمقاس المناسب تماماً، فتسلّل إليها السرطان ورقص رقصةً صغيرة.

Lina searched the beach in the moonlight. One shell was cracked. One was too small. One had a snail already living in it. At last she found a smooth, round, pearly shell, just the right size. The crab wriggled into it and did a little dance.

وفي غرفتها ابتسمت لينا في نومها. وحين نظرت ماما رأت يدها ملتفّةً حول الصدفة التي على الطاولة بجانب السرير، صدفة شاطئ تيتا، فرفعت الغطاء وأغلقت الباب. النهاية.

In her bedroom, Lina smiled in her sleep. When Mama looked in, she saw her hand curled round the seashell from the bedside table, the one from Teta's beach. She tucked the blanket up and closed the door. The end.
