قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الذهاب إلى الحضانة، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ كرةَ القدم

مضى على لينا في الحضانة شهر، وكان معظمه جيّداً، إلّا جزءاً واحداً صعباً: منتصف اليوم الطويل، بعد الوجبة وقبل العودة، حين ينشغل الجميع وتشعر لينا فجأةً بأنّها بعيدة جدّاً عن البيت. والليلة اعترفت بذلك: «أحياناً تصير في حلقي غصّة لا أستطيع إزالتها، وأريد أن أكون في البيت فقط.» فقالت ماما: «هذا مفهوم، فالبيت هو حيث فريقك.» ثمّ ذهبت تبحث في الدرج.

Lina had been going to nursery for a month, and most of it was fine. But there was one part of the day that was hard: the long middle, after snack and before home time, when everyone was busy and Lina suddenly felt very far from home. Tonight she said so. "Sometimes I get a lump in my throat," she said, "and I can't make it go away. I just want to be home." "That makes sense," said Mama. "Home is where your team is." Then she went to rummage in the drawer.

وعادت بجوربي الكرة الخاصّين بلينا، المخطّطين بألوان الفريق الذي تشجّعه العائلة كلّها، ولكلٍّ من بابا وماما جوربان مثلهما تماماً. قالت ماما: «هذا سرٌّ من أسرار اللاعبين: حين يلعب الفريق بعيداً عن ملعبه يلبس ألوانه رغم ذلك، فتذكّره بأنّ الآلاف في البيت يشجّعونه.» ورفعت الجوربين: «فغداً تلبسين ألوانك، وأنا أيضاً في العمل، تحت سروالي حيث لا يراها أحد.»

She came back with Lina's football socks, the stripy ones in the colours of the team the whole family supported. Baba and Mama had pairs just the same. "Here's a footballer's secret," said Mama. "When a team plays away, far from their own stadium, they still wear their colours. It reminds them that thousands of people at home are cheering for them." She held up the socks. "So tomorrow, you wear your colours. And so will I, at work. Under my trousers, where nobody can see."

فبدأت لينا تبتسم: «وهل سيلبس بابا جوربيه أيضاً؟» قالت ماما: «سأتأكّد من ذلك. فحين تأتيك الغصّة حرّكي أصابع قدميك وتذكّري أنّ ثلاثة أشخاصٍ يلبسون الجوارب نفسها في اللحظة نفسها: الفريق كلّه يلعب بعيداً، وفي الصفّ نفسه.» فلبست لينا الجوربين في الحال فوق البيجامة لتجرّبهما، فكانا دافئين ومضحكين قليلاً، وحرّكت أصابعها وأعلنت: «أشعر بالفريق!» فضحكت ماما وذهبت تخبر بابا بالخطّة، فصعد بابا فوراً وجورباه في يده.

Lina started to smile. "Will Baba wear his too?" "I'll make sure of it," said Mama. "So when you get that lump in your throat, wiggle your toes and remember that three people are wearing the same socks at the same moment. The whole team, playing away, all on the same side." Lina pulled the socks on right there, over her pyjamas, to test them. They felt warm and a bit silly. She wiggled her toes. "I can feel the team," she announced. Mama laughed and went to tell Baba the plan. Baba came straight up, holding his own pair.

فوضع بابا جوربيه بجدّيّةٍ على الكرسيّ بجانب جوربي لينا، ووضعت ماما جوربيها أيضاً. ثمّ نزعت ماما الجوربين عن قدمي لينا كي لا تسخنا كثيراً، ودثّرتها. وقال بابا من الباب: «مباراةٌ بعيدةٌ غداً، تذكّري: نحن كلّنا في الملعب معك.» فنظرت لينا إلى الأزواج الثلاثة المخطّطة على الكرسيّ، ولم يعد للغصّة أثر. وحرّكت أصابع قدميها تحت اللحاف مرّةً أخيرة ونامت. النهاية.

Baba solemnly put his socks on the chair next to Lina's, and Mama put hers there too. Then Mama took Lina's socks off again, so her feet wouldn't get too hot, and tucked her in. "Away match tomorrow," said Baba from the doorway. "Remember: we're all on the pitch with you." Lina looked at the three pairs of stripy socks on the chair. The lump in her throat was nowhere to be found. She wiggled her toes under the duvet one last time and fell asleep. The end.
