At nursery, Lina's class had started a growing project: each child planted a sunflower seed, and the cups stood in a long line on the classroom windowsill with names written on them in marker. Lina had pressed her seed down with one finger, exactly as deep as the teacher showed. But that evening, during bath time, she went quiet. "Mama," she said at last, "what if mine doesn't grow? What if everyone else's comes up and mine doesn't, and they all see?" Mama rinsed the shampoo off and wrapped her in a towel.
