قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن ترتيب الألعاب، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الديناصورات

بعد العشاء، بنت لينا مع بابا أعلى برجٍ من المكعّبات في تاريخ البيت. تمايل واهتزّ، ثمّ سقط بضجّةٍ هائلة، فانزلقت المكعّبات تحت السرير، وخلف الستائر، وحتّى في خفّ بابا. قال بابا: «رائع! والآن بقيت ربع ساعةٍ على النوم، وكلّ هذه المكعّبات يجب أن تعود إلى الصندوق.» فتهدّل كتفا لينا.

After dinner, Lina and Baba had built the tallest block tower in the history of the house. It wobbled, it swayed, and then, with a tremendous crash, it toppled over. Blocks skidded under the bed, behind the curtains and into Baba's slipper. "Magnificent," said Baba. "Now, bedtime is in fifteen minutes, and all these blocks need to go back in the box." Lina's shoulders drooped.

ثمّ وقعت عيناها على تشومب، الديناصور الأخضر الذي ينفتح فكّاه وينغلقان حين يُضغط ذيله، فارتسمت على وجهها ابتسامةٌ عريضة، وقالت بجدّيّة: «بابا، تشومب لم يتناول عشاءه، والجميع يعرف أنّ أكلته المفضّلة هي المكعّبات.» فمسح بابا على ذقنه وقال: «في هذه الحال، لا يمكن أن نتركه جائعاً.»

Then her eyes fell on Chomp, the green toy dinosaur whose jaws opened and closed when you squeezed his tail. A grin spread across her face. "Baba," she said seriously, "Chomp hasn't had his dinner. And everyone knows that his favourite food is blocks." Baba stroked his chin. "In that case, we can't let the poor creature go hungry."

فخرج تشومب للصيد. التقط مكعّباً أحمر من السجّادة، ومشى به إلى الصندوق: بلوب! ثمّ شمّ مكعّباً أزرق خلف الستارة، وآخرَ أصفر في خفّ بابا، فضحكا كثيراً. واخترع بابا قاعدة: لا يأكل تشومب إلّا لوناً واحداً في كلّ مرّة؛ الأحمر أوّلاً، ثمّ الأزرق، ثمّ الأخضر، ثمّ الأصفر. وشيئاً فشيئاً، ظهرت الأرض من جديد.

So Chomp went hunting. He snapped up a red block from the rug and stomped it to the toy box. Plop! He sniffed out a blue one behind the curtain, and a yellow one from Baba's slipper, which made them both laugh. Baba invented a rule: Chomp could only eat one colour at a time. Red first, then blue, then green, then yellow. Bit by bit, the floor reappeared.

وحين دخل آخر مكعّب، ربّتت لينا على بطن تشومب البلاستيكيّ: «لقد شبع حتّى لم يعد يستطيع أكل أيّ شيء.» بدت الغرفة هادئةً مرتّبة، ولا شيء تدوس عليه في الظلام. ثمّ دثّرها بابا وتشومب بجانبها وقال: «حوّلتِ عملاً مملّاً إلى لعبة، وهذه حيلةٌ ذكيّة.» فابتسمت لينا ابتسامةً ناعسة؛ فقد اكتشفت أنّ الترتيب أسرع بكثيرٍ مع صديقٍ جائع. النهاية.

When the last block went in, Lina patted Chomp's plastic tummy. "He's so full he can't eat another thing." The room looked calm and neat, and there was nothing to step on in the dark. Baba tucked Lina in with Chomp beside her. "You turned a boring job into a game," he said. "That's a clever trick." Lina smiled sleepily. Tidying, it turned out, was much quicker with a hungry friend. The end.
