بعد العشاء، رنّ جرس الباب. كانت الخالة ومعها سامي ابن خالتها، جاءا في زيارةٍ قصيرةٍ قبل النوم. فركضت لينا لتريه لعبتها الجديدة: ديناصوراً أخضرَ كبيراً، ذيله يتحرّك وفمه ينفتح واسعاً.
After dinner, the doorbell rang. It was Auntie with Lina's cousin Sami, who had come for a short visit before bedtime. Lina ran to show him her new toy: a big green T-rex with a wiggly tail and a mouth that opened wide.
سأل سامي وهو يمدّ يده: «هل ألعب به؟» فقالت لينا وهي تضمّ الديناصور: «إنّه لي!» فأمسك سامي الذيل، وشدّت لينا الرأس، وبعد قليلٍ غضب الاثنان، ولم يعد أحدٌ يستمتع.
"Can I play with him?" asked Sami, reaching out. "He's mine!" said Lina, holding the T-rex close. Sami grabbed the tail, Lina pulled the head, and soon they were both cross and nobody was having fun.
فتوقّفت لينا عن الشدّ وقالت: «ما رأيك أن تحرّك أنت الذيل، وأنا أحرّك الرأس؟ هكذا يمشي ويرقص!» ومعاً جعلا الديناصور يمشي على السجّادة ويهزّ ذيله، وضحكا كثيراً حتّى جاءت الخالة لتتفرّج.
Lina stopped pulling. "What if you're the T-rex's tail, and I'm his head?" she said. "Then he can walk and dance!" Together they made the T-rex stomp across the rug and wiggle his tail. They laughed so much that Auntie came to watch.
وبعد قليلٍ حان وقت ذهاب سامي، فقال: «كانت هذه أجمل لعبة!» وعانقها. ثمّ ساعدتها ماما في لبس ثياب النوم، ووضعتها في السرير، والديناصور على الرفّ. وفكّرت لينا أنّ المشاركة جعلت اللعب أمتع مرّتين. النهاية.
Soon it was time for Sami to go. "That was the best game," he said, and gave Lina a hug. Then Mama helped Lina into pyjamas and tucked her into bed, with the T-rex on the shelf. Sharing, Lina thought, had made the game twice as fun. The end.
