قصة قبل النوم عن الصبر والانتظار للأطفال الذين يحبّون الديناصورات

بعد العشاء، ناولت ماما مَجْد علبةً صغيرة، فيها بيضةٌ خضراءُ مرقّطةٌ بحجم ليمونة، وبطاقةٌ مكتوبٌ عليها: «ضعها في الماء، وسيفقس ديناصورك خلال يومين أو ثلاثة.» فاتّسعت عينا مَجْد؛ فقد قرأ عن هذا البيض في مجلّة، والآن صارت له بيضةٌ حقيقيّة. فملأ وعاءً زجاجيّاً بالماء، وأنزل البيضة فيه بحذر، ووضعه على الرفّ قرب السرير.

After dinner, Mama handed Majd a small box. Inside was a speckled green egg, about the size of a lemon, and a card that said: Place in water. Your dinosaur will hatch in 2-3 days. Majd's eyes went wide. He had read about these eggs in a magazine, and now he had a real one. He filled a glass bowl with water, lowered the egg in carefully and set it on the shelf by the bed.

ثمّ انتظر. راقب البيضة بينما كانت ماما ترتّب المطبخ، وراقبها وهو يلبس ثياب النوم، بل وراقبها أيضاً وهو ينظّف أسنانه، مائلاً من باب الحمّام. لكنّ البيضة لم تفعل شيئاً على الإطلاق. فنادى: «ماما، أظنّ أنّ بيضتي معطّلة. لم تتشقّق ولو قليلاً!»

Then he waited. He watched the egg while Mama tidied the kitchen. He watched it while he put on his pyjamas. He even watched it while brushing his teeth, leaning round the bathroom door. The egg did absolutely nothing. "Mama," he called, "I think mine is broken. It hasn't even cracked a little bit!"

فجاءت ماما وجلست بجانبه وقالت: «أتذكر حبّة الفول التي زرعناها في القطن؟ بقيت أيّاماً كأنّ شيئاً لا يحدث، ثمّ ظهر لها فجأةً برعمٌ صغير.» ونقرت على الوعاء: «الآن، داخل هذه البيضة، تشرب القشرة الماء وتلين. لا نراها، لكنّ ذلك يحدث. الصبر أن نثق بأنّ الأشياء الجميلة في طريقها إلينا.»

Mama came and sat beside him. "Do you remember the bean we planted in cotton wool? For days it looked like nothing was happening, and then one day there was a shoot." She tapped the bowl. "Right now, inside that egg, the shell is soaking up water and getting softer. You can't see it, but it's happening. Patience is trusting that good things are on their way."

وفكّر مَجْد في حبّة الفول؛ لقد كانت تستحقّ الانتظار. فقال: «إذن سأنظر إليها كلّ يوم، لكنّي لن أظلّ أحدّق فيها.» وصعد إلى السرير، ولفّت ماما البطانيّة حوله. ومن الوسادة، كان مَجْد يرى البيضة تلمع في ضوء الليل الصغير، فهمس: «تصبح على خير أيّها الديناصور الصغير، سأكون هنا حين تصير جاهزاً.» ثمّ ترك الانتظار يرتاح، ونام. النهاية.

Majd thought about the bean. It had been worth the wait. "So every day I'll check," he said, "but I won't keep staring." He climbed into bed, and Mama tucked the blanket around him. From the pillow, Majd could just see the egg glinting in the night light. "Goodnight, little dinosaur," he whispered. "I'll be here when you're ready." And with that, he let the waiting rest and fell asleep. The end.
