Bedtime story about patience and waiting for kids who love dinosaurs

بعد العشاء، قدّمت ماما لمَجْد مفاجأة: بيضة ديناصورٍ من اللعب، مرقّطةً بالأخضر والبنّيّ، وقالت: «إن وضعتها في الماء، فسيفقس منها ديناصورٌ صغيرٌ شيئاً فشيئاً.» فشهق مَجْد: بيضةٌ تفقس حقّاً!
After dinner, Mama gave Majd a surprise: a toy dinosaur egg, speckled green and brown. "If you put it in water," she said, "a little dinosaur will slowly hatch out of it." Majd gasped. A real hatching egg!
وضع مَجْد البيضة في وعاء ماء، وجلس بجانبها تماماً، يحدّق فيها. مرّت دقيقة، ثمّ دقيقتان. فقال: «افقسي أيّتها البيضة!» لكنّ البيضة بقيت كما هي. فسأل وهو يعبس: «لماذا لا تعمل؟»
Majd put the egg in a bowl of water and sat right next to it, staring. One minute passed. Then two. "Hatch, little egg!" he said. The egg just sat there. "Why isn't it working?" he asked, frowning.
فابتسمت ماما: «إنّها تعمل، لكن في الداخل حيث لا نرى. بعض الأشياء الجميلة تحتاج إلى أيّام، وسنلقي عليها نظرةً كلّ يوم.» فأخذ مَجْد نفساً عميقاً وقال: «حسناً، سأصبر.» وربّت على الوعاء برفق.
Mama smiled. "It is working, but inside, where we can't see. Some lovely things take a few days. Each day we'll take a peek." Majd took a deep breath. "Okay," he said. "I'll be patient." He gave the bowl a gentle pat.
ثمّ ساعدته ماما في تنظيف أسنانه، ووضعته في السرير. وكانت البيضة في وعائها على الرفّ، تقوم بعملها السرّيّ بهدوء. همس مَجْد: «تصبح على خير أيّها الديناصور الصغير. خذ وقتك.» ثمّ أغمض عينيه ونام. النهاية.
Mama helped Majd brush his teeth and tucked him into bed. The egg sat in its bowl on the shelf, quietly doing its secret work. "Goodnight, little dinosaur," Majd whispered. "Take your time." Then he closed his eyes and fell asleep. The end.
