قصة قبل النوم عن الصبر والانتظار للأطفال الذين يحبّون الحيوانات

كانت القطّة مشمش متكوّرةً على الكرسيّ، وأراد مَجْد أن يحضنها أكثر من أيّ شيء. فاندفع نحوها وحاول حملها، لكنّها تملّصت واندفعت تحت الأريكة. فصاح مَجْد وهو ممدّد على الأرض يمدّ يده نحوها: «عودي!»

Mishmish the cat was curled on the armchair, and Majd wanted to cuddle her more than anything. He rushed over and scooped at her, but Mishmish wriggled free and darted under the sofa. "Come back!" Majd cried, lying on the floor and reaching for her.

فجلست ماما بجانبه وقالت: «القطط مثل الأصدقاء الخجولين: إن طاردتها اختبأت، وإن جلست بهدوءٍ وانتظرت جاءت حين تكون مستعدّة. هذا يحتاج إلى صبر.» فتنهّد مَجْد: «كم من الوقت؟» قالت ماما: «ما يلزم.»

Mama sat down beside him. "Cats are a bit like shy friends," she said. "If you chase them, they hide. If you sit quietly and wait, they come to you when they're ready. It takes patience." Majd sighed. "How long?" "As long as it takes," said Mama.

فجلس مَجْد متربّعاً على السجّادة بلا حراك، ومدّ يداً واحدةً والكفّ إلى الأسفل، وانتظر. وتكتك الساعة، وحكّه أنفه، لكنّه لم يتحرّك. وبعد وقتٍ طويلٍ أطلّ أنفٌ ورديٌّ من تحت الأريكة، ثمّ شوارب، ثمّ خرجت مشمش وشمّت أصابعه.

So Majd sat cross-legged on the rug and kept very still. He held out one hand, palm down, and waited. The clock ticked. His nose itched, but he didn't move. After a long while, a pink nose poked out from under the sofa. Then whiskers. Then Mishmish crept out and sniffed his fingers.

ثمّ صعدت إلى حضن مَجْد، ودارت مرّتين واستقرّت تخرخر، فلم يكد مَجْد يتنفّس. ولاحقاً، حين دثّرته ماما، همس: «الانتظار كان يستحقّ.» وتكوّرت مشمش عند طرف السرير، وبعد قليلٍ نام الاثنان. النهاية.

Then she climbed right onto Majd's lap, turned round twice and settled down, purring. Majd hardly dared to breathe. Later, when Mama tucked him into bed, he whispered, "Waiting was worth it." Mishmish curled up at the end of the bed, and soon they were both asleep. The end.
