قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن الصبر والانتظار، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الديناصورات

وصل طرد الخالة بعد العشاء مباشرة: موسوعةٌ سميكةٌ عن الديناصورات، فيها صفحاتٌ تنفتح ونوافذ سرّيّة. فضمّتها لينا إلى صدرها وركضت إلى المطبخ: «بابا! هل نقرؤها الآن، أرجوك؟» فرفع بابا رأسه عن حوضٍ مليءٍ بالقدور وفقاعات الصابون وقال: «تبدو رائعة! أعطيني عشر دقائق لأنهي هذه، ثمّ هي لك.»

The parcel from Auntie arrived just after dinner: a thick dinosaur encyclopaedia with fold-out pages and secret flaps. Lina hugged it to her chest and raced into the kitchen. "Baba! Can we read it right now, please?" Baba looked up from a sink full of pans and soapy bubbles. "That looks wonderful," he said. "Give me ten minutes to finish these, and then it's all yours."

عشر دقائق! فاستندت لينا إلى إطار الباب، وبدا الانتظار مثل الوقوع في الطين. نقرت بقدمها، وتنهّدت تنهيدةً كبيرة، وسألت ثلاث مرّات: «هل مرّت عشر دقائق؟» ثمّ لاحظت قائمةً على غلاف الموسوعة الخلفيّ: «هل تجد العشرين ديناصوراً المختبئة في هذا الكتاب؟» فقالت: «بابا، سأذهب في رحلة صيد ديناصوراتٍ بينما أنتظر.»

Ten minutes! Lina slumped against the doorframe. Waiting felt like being stuck in mud. She tapped her foot, sighed dramatically and asked, "Is it ten minutes yet?" three times. Then she noticed the encyclopaedia had a list on the back: Can you find all 20 dinosaurs hidden in this book? "Baba," she said, "I'm going on a dinosaur hunt while I wait."

جلست إلى طاولة المطبخ، تقلّب الصفحات وترفع النوافذ: ديناصورٌ صغيرٌ بثلاثة قرونٍ خلف بركان، وديناصورٌ طائرٌ مختبئٌ في الغيوم، وآخرُ دقيقٌ بين السراخس. وكانت منشغلةً بالبحث حتّى إنّها بالكاد سمعت صوت آخر قدرٍ يوضع على الرفّ. «تسعة عشر... عشرون! وجدتها كلّها!» فمسح بابا يديه: «وأنا انتهيت أيضاً. شكراً لأنّك انتظرتِ بصبر، ووجدتِ طريقةً ذكيّةً لذلك.»

She sat at the kitchen table, turning pages and lifting flaps. There was a baby triceratops behind a volcano, a pterosaur hidden in the clouds, a tiny one tucked into a fern. She was so busy searching that she hardly noticed the clatter of the last pan going on the rack. "Nineteen... twenty! Found them all!" Baba wiped his hands. "And I've finished too. Thank you for waiting so patiently. You found a clever way to do it."

وفي السرير، أرت لينا بابا مكان كلّ ديناصورٍ مختبئ، وقرأ بابا أجمل الصفحات بأعمق صوت ديناصورٍ وأكثره هديراً. وحين أغلق الكتاب وقبّلها قبلة النوم، فكّرت لينا في الدقائق العشر الطويلة؛ لم تعد طويلةً حين وجدت ما تفعله. وقرّرت وهي تغفو أنّ الصبر أسهل حين تكون لدينا خطّة. النهاية.

Tucked up in bed, Lina showed Baba where every hidden dinosaur was, and Baba read the best pages in his deepest, rumbliest dinosaur voice. When he closed the book and kissed her goodnight, Lina thought about the ten long minutes. They hadn't felt so long once she had found something to do. Patience, she decided sleepily, was easier with a plan. The end.
