قصة قبل النوم عن الشجاعة والتغلّب على الخوف عند النوم للأطفال الذين يحبّون الديناصورات

كان وقت النوم قد جاء، وقد أنهى بابا لتوّه فصلاً من كتاب الديناصورات المفضّل لدى مَجْد. فقبّله وأطفأ النور الكبير. وفي الحال تغيّرت الغرفة: بدا الرداء المعلّق على الباب مثل غريبٍ طويل، وبدت الخزانة جبلاً مظلماً صامتاً. فشدّ مَجْد البطانيّة حتّى أنفه، وهمس: «بابا، أنا لا أحبّ الظلام.»

Bedtime had come, and Baba had just finished reading a chapter of Majd's favourite dinosaur book. He kissed him goodnight and switched off the big light. At once, the room changed. The dressing gown on the door looked like a tall stranger, and the wardrobe was a dark, silent mountain. Majd pulled the blanket up to his nose. "Baba," he whispered, "I don't like the dark."

فعاد بابا وجلس على طرف السرير. لم يضحك، ولم يقل إنّه لا يوجد ما يخيف، بل رفع ريكس، الديناصور الصغير الذي يحبّه مَجْد، ونظر في وجهه وقال: «همم، أظنّ أنّ ريكس متوتّرٌ قليلاً أيضاً. الديناصورات تخاف أحياناً، حتّى الكبيرة منها. هل تظنّ أنّك تستطيع مساعدته؟»

Baba came back and sat on the edge of the bed. He did not laugh or say there was nothing to be scared of. Instead he picked up Rex, Majd's little toy T-rex, and looked into his face. "Hmm," he said, "I think Rex is feeling a bit nervous too. Dinosaurs can feel scared, you know, even big ones. Do you think you could help him?"

فأخذ مَجْد ريكس وضمّه، وقال بأشجع صوتٍ له: «لا بأس يا ريكس. هذا رداء بابا، لا غريب. والخزانة مليئةٌ بثيابنا. الظلام هو الليل حين يرتاح ليصنع يوماً جديداً.» ثمّ أرى ريكس كيف يأخذ نفساً بطيئاً إلى الداخل، ونفساً طويلاً إلى الخارج، وفعل ذلك مرّةً أخرى لنفسه.

Majd took Rex and held him close. "It's all right, Rex," he said in his bravest voice. "That's only Baba's dressing gown, not a stranger. And the wardrobe is full of our clothes. The dark is just the night, resting so it can make a new day." He showed Rex how to take a slow breath in, and a long breath out. Then he did it again, for himself.

ثمّ شغّل بابا الضوء الليليّ الصغير الذي يشبه القمر، فانتشر في الغرفة نورٌ ذهبيٌّ ناعم، وقال: «أتعرف ماذا رأيت الآن؟ رأيت طفلاً يتشجّع من أجل صديق، فصار شجاعاً أيضاً.» فابتسم مَجْد. عاد الرداء رداءً فقط، ووضع ريكس تحت البطانيّة بجانبه.

Baba switched on the little moon-shaped night light, and a soft golden glow spread across the room. "Do you know what I just saw?" he said. "I saw someone being brave for a friend, and that made them brave too." Majd smiled. The dressing gown was just a dressing gown again. He tucked Rex under the blanket beside him.

قال مَجْد: «تصبح على خير يا بابا.» فأجاب بابا: «وأنت من أهله يا بطلي»، وترك الباب مفتوحاً قليلاً. وأصغى مَجْد إلى البيت الهادئ: طنين الثلّاجة، والريح الناعمة في الخارج. وصار تنفّسه بطيئاً هادئاً، كما علّم ريكس تماماً. وفكّر وهو يغفو أنّ الشجاعة لا تعني ألّا نخاف أبداً، بل أن نخاف ونحاول رغم ذلك. النهاية.

"Goodnight, Baba," said Majd. "Goodnight, brave one," Baba replied, and he left the door open just a crack. Majd listened to the quiet house: the fridge humming, the soft wind outside. His breathing grew slow and calm, just as he had shown Rex. Being brave, he thought sleepily, doesn't mean never feeling scared. It means feeling scared and trying anyway. The end.
