Mishmish had come from the animal shelter only a week ago, a thin grey cat with one torn ear and very wary eyes. The shelter lady had said she'd had a hard start in life and needed time. But Majd had been waiting for a cat for two whole years, and patience was running out. Every evening he tried to pick Mishmish up, and every evening she slipped away and hid behind the washing machine. Tonight, after another failed attempt, Majd flopped onto the sofa in his pyjamas. "She doesn't like me," he said miserably.
