It had been one of those chaotic evenings: Mama was on the phone to Grandma, Baba was fixing the dripping tap, and dinner had been late and noisy. By the time Majd had brushed his teeth, everyone was tired. Heading to bed, he passed the kitchen and noticed Mishmish sitting very upright beside her bowl, staring at it with great dignity. The bowl was empty. So was the water dish. In all the chaos, nobody had fed the cat.
