قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن استقبال أخٍ أو أختٍ صغيرة، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الحيوانات

لم تكن الطفلة لولو تتكلّم بعد، بل تثرثر وتصرخ فقط، وأحياناً حين تريد شيئاً تبكي بصوتٍ عالٍ جدّاً. قالت لينا وهي ترتمي على الأريكة بعد العشاء: «إنّها مملّة، لا تعرف أيّ لعبة.» وكانت ماما تلبس لولو ثياب النوم، فقالت: «ربّما تحتاج إلى معلّمة.»

Baby Lulu couldn't talk yet. She could only babble and squeal, and sometimes, when she wanted something, she cried very loudly. "She's boring," Lina said, flopping onto the sofa after dinner. "She can't play anything." Mama was changing Lulu into her sleepsuit. "Maybe she needs a teacher," she said.

ففكّرت لينا، ثمّ أحضرت سلّة الحيوانات اللعبة وجلست أمام لولو. ورفعت البقرة: «موو.» ثمّ الخروف: «ماع.» ثمّ الأسد بزئيرٍ كبير. فاتّسعت عينا لولو، وركلت برجليها فرحاً.

Lina thought about it. Then she fetched the basket of toy animals and sat down in front of Lulu. She held up the cow. "Moo," she said. Then the sheep: "Baa." Then the lion, with a big roar. Lulu's eyes went wide, and she kicked her legs with delight.

وأعادت لينا ذلك مراراً: البقرة، والخروف، والبطّة، والأسد، ولولو تراقب كلّ واحد. ثمّ حين رفعت البقرة للمرّة الخامسة، فتحت لولو فمها وقالت: «مممو!» فشهقت لينا: «ماما! قالت موو! أنا علّمتها!»

Lina did it again and again, the cow, the sheep, the duck, the lion. Lulu watched every one. Then, when she held up the cow for the fifth time, Lulu opened her mouth and said, "Mmmm-oo!" Lina gasped. "Mama! She said moo! I taught her!"

قالت ماما مبتسمة: «أنت معلّمتها الأولى.» وتثاءبت لولو، فوضعتها ماما في سريرها الصغير، ثمّ دثّرتها في سريرها. همست لينا: «غداً الخروف.» فهمست ماما: «ماع»، وأطفأت النور. النهاية.

"You're her very first teacher," said Mama, smiling. Lulu yawned, and Mama laid her in her cot. Then Mama tucked Lina into bed. "Tomorrow, the sheep," Lina whispered. "Baa," Mama whispered back, and switched off the light. The end.
