Teta had been ill for a week. It was only a bad cough, the doctor said, but she had to stay at home and rest, and for the first time Majd could remember, she had missed Friday dinner. On the video call that evening she tried to sound cheerful, but Majd noticed how tired she looked, and how she kept glancing at the window. "I can't even sit on my balcony and look at the stars," she said. "The doctor says the night air will make my cough worse." Afterwards, Majd sat thinking.
