قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن المشاركة وتبادل الأدوار، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الأميراتِ والقصور

جاءت هدى وأهلها إلى العشاء، وحين رُفعت الصحون وجلس الكبار مع شاي النعناع سحبت لينا وهدى صندوق الأزياء إلى وسط غرفة الجلوس، وفي أعلاه كنز المجموعة كلّها: عباءة أميرةٍ ذهبيّةٌ طويلة، لامعةٌ من الخارج ناعمةٌ من الداخل، بفيونكةٍ كبيرةٍ عند الرقبة. ورأياها في اللحظة نفسها تماماً، فأمسكاها معاً. قالت هدى: «رأيتها أوّلاً.» فقالت لينا: «إنّها لي، فهي تسكن في بيتي.»

Huda and her parents came for dinner, and once the plates were cleared and the grown-ups had settled down with mint tea, Lina and Huda dragged the dress-up box into the middle of the living room. On the very top lay the treasure of the whole collection: a long gold princess cape, shiny on the outside and soft on the inside, with a big bow at the neck. Both of them saw it at exactly the same moment. Both of them grabbed. "I saw it first," said Huda. "It's mine," said Lina. "It lives in my house."

فشدّا، وتمدّد القماش الذهبيّ بينهما وصدر صوتٌ مقلقٌ من الخياطة. فظهر بابا ووضع يده على منتصف العباءة: «مهلاً يا صاحبي السموّ، قبل أن تتنازع هذه المملكة على عباءةٍ واحدة، لنفكّر كالملوك الحقيقيّين: ماذا تفعل الملكة الطيّبة حين يريد شخصان الشيء نفسه؟» ففكّرت هدى: «تضع قاعدة؟» «بالضبط، قاعدةً عادلة.» ثمّ ذهب إلى المطبخ وعاد بمؤقّت البيض: «ثلاث دقائق لكلٍّ منكما، والضيفة تبدأ، فهكذا يعامل الملوك زوّارهم.»

They pulled. The gold cloth stretched between them, and there was a worrying creak from the stitching. Baba appeared and put a hand on the middle of the cape. "Hold on, Your Highnesses," he said. "Before this kingdom goes to war over one cape, let's think like real royals. What does a good queen do when two people want the same thing?" Huda thought. "She makes a rule?" "Exactly. A fair rule." Baba went to the kitchen and came back with the egg timer. "Three minutes each. And the guest goes first, because that's how royals treat their visitors."

ففتحت لينا فمها لتجادل ثمّ أغلقته؛ العباءة عباءتها، لكنّ هدى ضيفتها، فتركتها. فربطت هدى الفيونكة ودارت، وبحثت لينا في عمق الصندوق فوجدت التاج الفضّيّ والعصا ذات النجمة وأعلنت كالمنادي: «نقدّم لكم أميرة غرفة الجلوس!» دينغ! ففكّت هدى العباءة وناولتها، وأخذت العصا وصارت هي المنادي: «نقدّم لكم صاحبة الجلالة، ملكة الأريكة!» وتبادلا مرّةً بعد مرّة.

Lina opened her mouth to argue, then closed it again. It was her cape, but Huda was her guest. She let go. Huda tied the bow and twirled, and Lina dug deeper into the box and found the silver crown, the wand with the star. She announced Huda like a herald: "Presenting the Princess of the Living Room!" Ding! Huda untied the cape and passed it over, then took the wand and became the herald herself. "Presenting the Royal Majesty of the Sofa!" They swapped again and again.

وحين حان وقت ذهابها عانقت هدى لينا عند الباب: «قصرك أجمل قصر.» وفيما بعد دثّرتها ماما: «أخبرني بابا أنّك تركتِ هدى تبدأ.» فهزّت لينا رأسها: «كانت أمتع مع اثنين، ولو احتفظت بها لكنت ألبس عباءةً وحدي فقط.» فقبّلت ماما جبينها: «هذا هو سرّ المشاركة.» فنامت لينا تفكّر في التيجان وعباءةٍ ذهبيّة. النهاية.

When it was time for Huda to go home, she hugged Lina at the door. "Your palace is the best," she said. Later, Mama tucked Lina into bed. "Baba told me you let Huda go first," she said. Lina nodded. "It was more fun with two," she admitted. "If I'd kept it, I'd just have been wearing a cape on my own." Mama kissed her forehead. "That's the secret of sharing," she said. Lina fell asleep thinking of crowns and a gold cape. The end.
