Tomorrow was dress-up day at nursery, and Majd had been looking forward to it all week. But at bedtime, as Mama laid out the outfit on the chair, the princess crown, the long purple cape and the silver shoes, Majd went quiet. "Mama," he said at last, "what if I'm the only princess? Adam said he's going as a firefighter, and Huda's going as a cat. What if everybody looks at me and laughs?" Mama didn't put the cape down. She came and sat on the bed with it across her knees.
