Teta's flat was full of things from her travels, but Lina's favourite was the big conch shell on the bookcase, creamy outside and glowing pink inside, as big as two hands. Teta said her own father had found it on a beach a very long time ago. If you held it to your ear, you could hear the sea. Tonight, while the grown-ups drank tea after dinner, Lina sat on the rug with the shell pressed to her ear, listening to the rushing, whispering sound. Cousin Sami came and sat next to her. "My turn?" he asked.
