Bubbles the goldfish had lived in the round tank on the kitchen shelf since before Majd could remember. Feeding him was Baba's job, every evening after dinner, but lately Baba had been working late, coming home tired and distracted. Tonight Majd noticed that Bubbles was hanging near the top of the water, opening and closing his mouth, and that the water looked a bit cloudy. "Baba," he said, "when did Bubbles last have his dinner?" Baba stopped halfway through loading the dishwasher, and looked guilty. "I think I forgot last night," he admitted. "And maybe the night before."
