Teta's garden was famous in the family for its tomatoes, and this year she had saved the seeds from her very best plant, a huge, sweet, dark red variety that her own father had grown. She had given the little paper envelope to Majd. "Plant them in the spring," she'd said, "and they'll be yours." Tonight, cousin Sami was staying over, and he saw the envelope on Majd's desk. "Is that Teta's tomato seeds?" he asked. "Did she give you all of them?" Majd nodded uncomfortably. Sami said nothing more, but kept looking at the envelope.
