Lina had been given a brand-new football for Eid, white with shiny gold stars, and it had pride of place on the shelf. That evening, as she tucked her in, Lina noticed the old football in the corner, the one she used to play with every day. It was scuffed and grey now, and a bit soft because it needed air. "I don't need that one any more," Lina said sleepily. Mama didn't say anything. She just switched off the light. And that night, Lina had a very strange dream.
