قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن اللطف ومساعدة الآخرين، لكلّ بنتٍ تحبّ الديناصورات

كانت السماء في الخارج تصير زرقاءَ داكنة حين عاد بابا من العمل. علّق مفاتيحه، وارتمى على الكنبة، وأغمض عينيه لحظة، ثمّ تنهّد وهو يفرك رقبته: «يا له من يومٍ طويلٍ مزدحم!» وكانت لينا تلعب بديناصوراتها على السجّادة، فتوقّفت ونظرت إلى بابا. كان يبدو مثل ديناصورٍ عجوزٍ متعبٍ بعد مشوارٍ طويل.

The sky outside was turning dark blue when Baba came home from work. He hung up his keys, dropped onto the sofa and closed his eyes for a moment. "What a long, busy day," he sighed, rubbing his neck. Lina was playing with her toy dinosaurs on the rug, but she stopped and watched Baba. He looked like a tired old dinosaur after a very long walk.

وخطرت للينا فكرة. فلبست خفّها الأخضر الذي يشبه قدمَي ديناصور، بمخالبه الناعمة من القماش، وزأرت أهدأ زئيرٍ في العالم، وأعلنت هامسةً: «الليلة، سيعتني ديناصورٌ لطيفٌ ببابا.» ثمّ مشت إلى المطبخ بخطواتِ ديناصورٍ كبيرةٍ حذرة، كي لا تصدر أيّ صوت.

Lina had an idea. She pulled on her green dinosaur slippers, the ones with soft felt claws, and gave the quietest roar in the world. "Tonight," she announced in a whisper, "a gentle dinosaur is in charge of looking after Baba." Then she tiptoed to the kitchen, taking big, careful dinosaur steps so as not to make a sound.

أوّلاً، أحضرت الديناصور اللطيف كوبَ ماء، تمسكه بالمخلبين كي لا ينسكب. ثمّ وسادةً ناعمةً لظهر بابا، وبعدها خفَّيه المريحين، واحداً في كلّ مخلب. وأخيراً، فرشت لينا البطانيّة الصغيرة على ركبتَي بابا. ففتح بابا عيناً واحدة وضحك: «ما شاء الله! لم أكن أعرف أنّ الديناصورات تفكّر في غيرها هكذا.»

First, the gentle dinosaur brought a glass of water, holding it with both claws so it would not spill. Next came a soft cushion for Baba's back, and then his comfy slippers, one in each claw. Finally, Lina draped the little blanket from the armchair over Baba's knees. Baba opened one eye and laughed. "Well, I never! I didn't know dinosaurs were so thoughtful."

وفي وقتٍ لاحق، بعد حمّامٍ دافئٍ وحكايةٍ عن الديناصورات، وضع بابا لينا في السرير، ومسح على شعرها وقال: «هل تعرفين؟ حين كنتِ لطيفةً معي، طار تعبي بعيداً.» فتدثّرت لينا وهي تشعر بالدفء مثل بيضة ديناصورٍ في رملٍ دافئ، وقرّرت أنّ اللطف أجمل حتّى من الزئير. النهاية.

Later, after a warm bath and a dinosaur story, Baba tucked Lina into bed. "Do you know what?" he said, stroking her hair. "When you were kind to me, my tiredness flew away." Lina snuggled down, feeling as warm as a dinosaur egg in warm sand. Being kind, she decided, was even better than roaring. The end.
