قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن العيد

في المساء الذي يسبق العيد، وصلت تيتا ومعها كيسٌ كبيرٌ من الطحين والتمر والزبدة، وأعلنت: «حان وقت المعمول!» وجاء سامي ابن خالتها أيضاً، فغسل الطفلان أيديهما وصعدا إلى الكرسيّين عند طاولة المطبخ. وفاحت في المطبخ كلّه رائحةٌ حلوةٌ من الزبدة.

On the evening before Eid, Teta arrived with a big bag of flour, dates and butter. "Time to make ma'amoul," she announced. Cousin Sami had come too, and the two children washed their hands and climbed onto chairs at the kitchen table. The whole kitchen smelled sweet and buttery.

كوّرت تيتا العجين كراتٍ صغيرة، ووضعت في كلّ واحدةٍ قليلاً من التمر. ثمّ أخرجت أجمل شيء: قالباً خشبيّاً منقوشاً على شكل وردة. فمدّت لينا يدها إليه في اللحظة نفسها التي مدّ فيها سامي يده، وقال كلاهما وهما يشدّان: «لي!»

Teta rolled the dough into balls and tucked a little date inside each one. Then she brought out the best part: a carved wooden mould shaped like a flower. Lina reached for it at the same moment as Sami. "Mine!" they both said, pulling.

وانتظرت تيتا بهدوء. فنظرت لينا إلى وجه سامي وأفلتت القالب وقالت: «واحدةٌ لك، ثمّ واحدةٌ لي.» فضغط سامي كرةً في القالب، ونقره على الطاولة، فقفزت منه كعكةٌ على شكل وردةٍ كاملة. ثمّ جاء دور لينا، وسرعان ما امتلأت صينيّةٌ كاملة.

Teta waited quietly. Lina looked at Sami's face and let go. "You do one, then I do one," she said. Sami pressed a ball into the mould, tapped it on the table, and out popped a perfect flower biscuit. Then it was Lina's turn. Soon there was a whole tray.

ودخل المعمول الفرن استعداداً للعيد. فحمّمتها ماما ووضعتها في السرير، وهمست تيتا عند الباب: «التناوب جعل المتعة مضاعفة.» فابتسمت لينا، وحلمت بكعكات الورد. النهاية.

The ma'amoul went into the oven for Eid. Mama gave Lina a bath and tucked her into bed. "Taking turns made it twice as fun," Teta whispered at the door. Lina smiled and dreamed of flower biscuits. The end.
