قصة قبل النوم للبنات عن اليوم الوطني لدولة الإمارات

كان اليوم الوطني يوماً حافلاً سعيداً، والآن امتلأ المساء بالألوان. كلّ برجٍ خلف نافذة لينا يضيء بالأحمر والأخضر والأبيض والأسود، والأعلام على الشرفات ترفرف في النسيم الدافئ. وفي آخر الشارع، كان رجالٌ يغنّون أغنيةً قديمة ويتمايلون بعصيٍّ رفيعة في رقصة العيّالة. وسألت لينا وهي تقفز على الأريكة: «متى تبدأ الألعاب الناريّة؟»

National Day had been a busy, happy day, and now the evening was full of colour. Every tower outside Lina's window glowed red, green, white and black, and the flags on the balconies fluttered in the warm breeze. Down the street, a group of men were singing an old song and swaying thin bamboo sticks in the Ayyala dance. "When do the fireworks start?" asked Lina, bouncing on the sofa.

قالت ماما: «في الساعة التاسعة، وهذا بعد موعد نومك. فإليك الخطّة: الحمّام، فالبيجامة، فتنظيف الأسنان، ثمّ نشاهدها من نافذة غرفتك.» كان صعباً أن تترك الغناء والأضواء، وأرادت لينا أن تجادل، لكنّها تذكّرت أنّ الانتظار أسهل حين ننشغل بشيء. فأسرعت في الحمّام، ونظّفت كلّ سنٍّ من أسنانها، ولبست البيجامة ذات النجوم.

"At nine o'clock," said Mama. "That's past your bedtime, so here is the plan: bath, pyjamas, teeth, and then we watch from your bedroom window." It was hard to leave the singing and the lights. Lina wanted to argue, but she remembered that waiting is easier when you keep busy. So she hurried through the bath, brushed every tooth and put on the pyjamas with the stars.

وأخيراً انطفأ مصباح الغرفة، وفتحت ماما الستائر على اتّساعها، وجلست بجانبها على السرير والبطّانية تلفّهما. وبعيداً فوق البحر دوّى صوتٌ هادئ، وتفتّحت زهرةٌ حمراء من النور ثمّ نزلت ببطءٍ في خيوطٍ ذهبيّة، ثمّ جاءت الخضراء، فالبيضاء، فمطرٌ فضّيٌّ يطقطق كالفُشار. وعدّت لينا كلّ واحدةٍ همساً. وقالت ماما بهدوء: «احتفلت الإمارات بأعياد ميلادٍ كثيرة، وما زالت السماء تفرح بكلّ واحدٍ منها.»

At last the bedroom lamp went off, and Mama opened the curtains wide. They sat together on the bed, wrapped in the blanket. Far away over the sea came a gentle boom, and a red flower of light opened and slowly drifted down in golden threads. Then came green, then white, then a shower of silver that crackled like popcorn. Lina counted every one in a whisper. "The UAE has had many birthdays," Mama said softly, "and the sky still celebrates each one."

وحين خفتت آخر شرارةٍ فضّيّة، هدأ الشارع، وصارت الأبراج تضيء بهدوءٍ كمصابيح الليل. وشدّت ماما البطّانية حول لينا وقبّلت جبينها وقالت: «ما أجمل صبرك الليلة.» فتثاءبت لينا، وفكّرت في المغنّين والأعلام وأزهار النور، وفي كلّ العائلات في كلّ المباني التي شاهدت السماء نفسها معاً. ثمّ أغمض النوم عينيها. النهاية.

When the last silver sparkle faded, the street grew quiet, and the towers glowed softly like night lights. Mama tucked the blanket around Lina and kissed her forehead. "You waited beautifully tonight," she said. Lina yawned. She thought about the singers, the flags and the flowers of light, and about all the families in all the buildings who had watched the same sky together. Then her eyes closed, and she fell asleep.
